The system
The use of combined heat and power systems in the commercial or industrial sectors can provide a viable alternative. A gas turbine or a combined heat and power plant generates the electrical power – a downstream waste heat boiler system uses the hot flue gases from the upstream combustion processes for the efficient generation of thermal energy or process heat.
Customer benefit
The hot water or steam generators with waste heat recovery are conventionally fired 3-pass boilers with an additional integrated fourth smoke tube pass. The hot flue gases from the upstream processes are passed through this to support the generation of steam or hot water. Additional peak load boilers, which are necessary with pure waste heat boilers, can usually be dispensed with due to the self-firing. Investment costs, space requirement and expenditure on equipment are reduced enormously.
